Out of the large assortment of fun amusement parks you can visit in Panama City Beach, the only one dedicated to fun in the water is Shipwreck Island Waterpark. Whether you’re young or old, love swimming or sliding, this 20 acre park has something for everyone.

Since 1983 Shipwreck Island Waterpark has been entertaining locals and visitors alike with its extensive slides and water attractions. There’s plenty enough to keep a whole family occupied for an entire day, and with food and beverages available inside the park you don’t need to worry about packing a picnic (see the food and beverage section below). There is plenty of attractive and lush landscaping that provides much needed shade against the hot Florida sun and a place to walk when you fancy a break from all the water based activities.

Shipwreck Island Attractions

Taking center stage at Shipwreck Island Waterpark is the Ocean Motion Wave Pool that, every ten minutes, creates the feeling of being out in the ocean without the currents or the marine life! The waves reach 3 feet high in this 500,000-gallon pool so they’re large enough to be fun, but not so large to be scary, and with plenty of shallow waters the pool is perfect for visitors of all ages and swim abilities.

If you are visiting with younger children they may prefer to spend their time in the children’s activity pool, named The Tadpole Hole. With its shallow waters it’s a safe and fun area for the little ones and includes their own kid-sized water slides plus an old submarine called The Silly Sub.

There is also a kid-friendly slide in the family activity pool, Skull Island. The whole family can have fun racing in the family racing slide and for the ultimate cool-down experience be sure to stand underneath the giant tipping bucket that lets loose 700 gallons of water every few minutes.

Now the more exciting rides… The Raging Rapids provide an adrenaline rush on over 300 feet of tube rafting. Travel down the white waters and then take a deep breath for the 50-foot splash down ending. The Zoom Flume is also a good one for adrenaline junkies. No tubes are involved on this ride that includes three flumes that all end up in a large splash pool.

The Great Shipwreck is a couple of attractions in one. It’s a really cool replica of a 17th century sailing ship that also happens to have an exciting ride on it. Climb to the top of the ship then swing from a cable and drop into the lagoon below.

Close to the Great Shipwreck is one of the most thrilling rides at Shipwreck Island. Tree Top Drop is two slides from a 65-foot high platform. One of them includes a free fall in the dark while the other is an exciting twisting slide.

Not everything at Shipwreck Island Waterpark is fast-paced. The Lazy River is perfect when you want to relax for a while on the 2,000 feet of slow moving water.

Shipwreck Island Food and Beverages

For safety reasons no coolers, food or beverages are allowed into the park but there’s a great selection of food and beverages available for purchase including pizza, hot dogs, burgers, Mexican, ice cream and frozen drinks. Shipwreck Island Waterpark also has its own souvenir store where you can also pick up sunscreen and sunglasses.
