Lunch is a rare treat whenever we’re inPanama City Beach. We enjoy spending most of the day havingfun on the beach. On this very day, it was quitewindy and I also had a few errands to run, so we were getting a late start. We all decided to have lunch before heading for the beach.

We wanted a place the locals loved and we found it inJ. Michael’s Restaurant. It’s a family-owned local restaurant and they serve fresh-off-the-boat seafood. The décor was that of typical beach vibes with surfboards on the roof and license plates on the walls along with other memorabilia. All in all, it was a casual, cozy and neat environment.

The locals seemed to love the place as it was already packed by 12pm when we arrived. Despite that, our orders were taken right away and came very quickly. I enjoyed a grilled grouper sandwich that came with a great tasting batter while Sophie had the Captains Platter, which she found to be delicious. They had very good shrimp oysters and cod. The scallops were also well made and there were plenty of them.

Our waitress was quite nice. She made sure we weren’t in need of anything and that were satisfied with our meals, and despite the rush hour, the service was fast. On our way out, we ordered a huge hamburger served on an onion bun with lettuce, tomato and onion, which we indulged ourselves in on the beach.

If you’re looking for a delicious, non-descript façade, no-frills seafood spot, you’re sure to enjoy the bold flavors dished out at J. Michael’s. Food connoisseurs give special kudos to the raw Apalachicola oysters, garlic grilled shrimp and fresh shrimp sandwich with homemade tartar sauce. Others prefer the panama jack chicken sandwich and their gumbo, which is on point! J. Michael’s also offer the hook-to-cook option where anglers can bring in their own catch to be fried or grilled to perfection.

So the next time we went fishing, we brought in tons of freshly caught and cleaned fishes to be grilled. They were promptly turned into a giant spread of 3 different kinds of fish: blackened, fried and grilled. They were served with coleslaw, fries, collards, beans and hushpuppies. J. Michael’s has the best red beans and rice. J. Michael’s restaurant is a must-visit on your next affordable fun Florida beach vacation.
