It was our wedding anniversary and we yearned for a romantic getaway. We were in Florida for vacation and were at loss for the perfect place for our anniversary. Some of our friends recommended that we check out Firefly Restaurant, Panama City Beach. We did a little research ourselves and read reviews online, but nothing could have prepared us for the real deal.
We had made reservations several hours ahead because we wanted to avoid an unnecessary wait. We settled under themajestic, warmly lit canopy of a gigantic oak tree. The setting was really nice. Our waitress was fantastic. She took the time to accommodate every of our request and guided us in making our orders and made the night a special one for us.
The first introduction tothe greatness that was coming was when our waitress brought the bread as an appetizer. My! Four loaves of warm and freshly baked bread. The delight was in the many spreads that accompanied the bread. The bread accompaniments were quite different from the usual butter or oil. We had our bread with roasted garlic butter, tomato basil and a sweet creamy butter.
Our waitress suggested Pistachio and honey Dijon-crusted grouper and seared Ahi tuna served with rich wasabi butter but we decided to try the She Crab Soup. We’d read lots of reviews praising the restaurant’s She Crab Soup, so we wanted to give it a try too. Our She Crab Soup was served in large bowls with a buttery puff pastry floating atop. We were also given the option to add a shot of sherry to it. Well, we said YES! It turned out to be the best She Crab Soup ever.
We were in the mood for steak, the filet and lobster tail. Our meal was served with drawn butter. We weren’t disappointed with this either. I particularly enjoyed the fried waffled potato chips sticking out of the mashed potatoes. The filet was tender and the lobster was perfect. All of our dishes were cooked as requested and were done perfectly.
We ordered chicken and the lava cake for dessert and it was fantastic with white chocolate Crème Brulee running out of it. This added the final touch to the inspiring symphony of aromas and flavors.
Firefly was wonderful and we enjoyed the excellent service. We loved the romantic sea food spot and it made our affordable fun Florida beach vacation a memorable one.
